Stoilkovic at the “Western Balkans 2030” Conference – Digitalization and Modernization as Drivers of a Stronger and More Connected Region

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia and Minister for Inter-Community Relations, Mr. Ivan Stoilkovic, participated in the international conference “Western Balkans 2030,” organized by the European Investment Bank (EIB), held in Belgrade. The event brought together high-level government representatives, experts, and business leaders from the region and the European Union, with the aim of discussing the future of the Western Balkans – regional integration, digital transformation, and a modern, smart economy.

In his address, Deputy Prime Minister Stoilkovic emphasized that the conference represents an excellent opportunity for exchanging experiences, ideas, and perspectives among the countries of the region.

“Regional cooperation, economic connectivity, and digital transformation are the key to a stable and prosperous Balkans within a stable Europe,” he emphasized.

Stoilkovic noted that the future of the region lies in functional integration, where borders will be crossed for common benefit, rather than serving as obstacles to development.

“Our region has long been trapped between political shadows and economic barriers. Today, we see the future in smart solutions, joint investments, and digital infrastructure that connects people, institutions, and economies,” stated the Deputy Prime Minister.

A special emphasis in his address was placed on digitalization and modernization as drivers of institutional progress and economic efficiency. As Stoilkovic highlighted, the Republic of North Macedonia is actively working on modernizing its transport and energy infrastructure, particularly Corridor 10 – part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) – as well as implementing digital solutions that will enhance connectivity and transparency in the public sector.

“With the support of the EU and the EIB, we want to build infrastructure that is interoperable, energy-efficient, and aligned with European standards. But for this to become a reality, joint planning, cross-border cooperation, and the exchange of good practices are essential,” Stoilkovic emphasized.

In conclusion, the Deputy Prime Minister sent a message that the Western Balkans is not just at the threshold of Europe, but an integral part of the European family.

“Let us build a region where young people stay because there are opportunities, investors invest because there is predictability, and where cooperation overcomes divisions,” Stoilkovic said.
