The Vlach Association for Rights and Humanity Integra Nau from Skopje, as part of the “Days of Vlach Culture” project, will begin organizing a series of events this weekend. These events are a significant opportunity to promote the rich cultural heritage of the Vlach community as part of the mosaic of ethnic and cultural identities that make up the contemporary multi-ethnic reality of our society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDays of Vlach Culture” is a project supported and funded by the Ministry for Inter-Community Relations. A total of six activities are planned, including: a Multicultural Poetry Evening, Children’s Cultural Gatherings, and four Exhibitions featuring old photographs of the life of the Vlachs, historical artifacts, and traditional costumes from different regions of the country. The exhibition, besides being presented in Skopje, will also be displayed in Bitola, Krusevo, and Shtip\u2014cities with the largest concentrations of Vlachs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Multicultural Poetry Evening held last night, with a speech by the State Secretary in the Ministry for Inter-Community Relations, Mr. Vladimir Stojanovic, was a significant opportunity for the affirmation of the rich cultural heritage of the Vlach community. Meanwhile, as part of the exhibition “The Pictures Bear Witness” opened this evening, attendees had the chance to view a total of 64 old photographs that visually depict various aspects of Vlach life: Gramostean, Farshiroc, and Moskopolean regions, showing their different daily activities, such as working with livestock, household chores, festivities, and gatherings on various occasions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The photographs mostly date from the early 20th century, specifically from 1900 to 1940, although there are also a few older photos from the late 19th century. Part of the exhibition includes items that were used by the Vlachs in the past, as well as traditional Vlach costumes from various regions of Macedonia, particularly from the eastern part of the country: Shtip, Sveti Nikole, Veles, Kumanovo, as well as urban costumes from Bitola and Krushevo. Additionally, delicate cloths used to cover bread during the rising and baking process in the oven, as well as for storing the baked bread, are also on display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, there is literature about the Vlachs on display, which is part of the rich archive of the National and University Library “Saint Clement of Ohrid”. Guests also had the opportunity to watch several video interviews with young Vlachs, who spoke about the current state and future of the Vlach language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
